Pipe Fabrication ApprenticeshipsPipe fabricators weld and prefabricate pipes for hot water, steam, air, gas, and chemicals, sometimes for systems under great pressure. Fabricators also:
- Study blueprints to select tools and equipment for the sequence of fabrication
- Cut and thread pipe using pipe cutters, cutting torches, and pipe-threading machines
- Perform a considerable amount of welding, and must be able to pass various welding tests for certification
Entrance Requirements
Pipe Fabricator apprentice applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent, and must pass an aptitude test. High school classes in chemistry, general mathematics, mechanical drawing, physics, and shop are helpful.
Working Conditions
Fabricators must stand for long periods. They work exclusively in fabrication shops.
