Fire Extinguishers Used to Save a Life

On July 7th, 2017 a two-car head-on collision seriously injured three people. Inside one of the vehicles, a woman was trapped as a fire started. Several bystanders took action and grabbed fire extinguishers from their vehicles to put the fire out while waiting for emergency personnel to arrive.

The Campbellsport Fire Department was among those to arrive on the scene and witness the amazing actions of those Good Samaritans. In appreciation for this courageous act, Ahern and the Fire Department replaced the sixteen fire extinguishers that were used to save a human life.

Keeping a fire extinguisher in your vehicle can help prevent a small fire from becoming unmanageable and keep that fire at bay until emergency personnel arrive.  “A fire extinguisher should be an essential part of every vehicle safety kit,” said Craig Olson, Chief of the Campbellsport Fire Department.

Assisting the Campbellsport Fire Department on scene was Eden Fire & First Responders, Flight for Life, ThedaCare, Fond du Lac Paramedics, Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department, and State Patrol.
