At Ahern, we take the professional and personal development of our employees seriously. We don’t just talk about it – we put the resources behind it to make it happen. To help employees reach their goals in all facets of life, we have implemented a comprehensive professional and personal development package.
We offer dedicated resources to help you progress in your career here at Ahern whether you want to take on more responsibility, manage others, hone your technical skills or become an expert in your chosen field.
Ahern’s learning philosophy is grounded in validated adult learning principles, including learning by experience, training for current needs as well as developing for future opportunities, and providing the right learning programs as you need it. We utilize a best-in-class Learning Management System (LMS) located in SuccessFactors for development of position specific competencies, soft skills, computer skills and other self-paced training.
In conjunction with our LMS, we take a holistic approach to learning and development encompassing technical and on-the-job training, industry-specific leadership and technical development, and regular classroom and virtual trainings that align with our company’s goals and competencies. Additionally, we offer regular instructor-led training sessions for both managers and employees aimed at providing the necessary tools and information to be successful. Our commitment to employee development extends to company-paid external trainings, professional organization membership fees, lunch and learns, targeted company trainings, and leadership materials.
At Ahern, we offer every employee the opportunity to create an Individual Development Plan with their manager to chart a path toward obtaining the necessary experience and training to reach their specific career goals.
Ahern also offers specific career paths for select positions such as design, project management, estimating and sales that set out the specific experience, training, and study associated with advancement in those roles.
Additionally, we encourage employees to learn from one another through formal and informal mentorships, job shadowing, and best practice groups. Each quarter, Ahern’s Management Committee (including the CEO) holds an informal roundtable discussion with new employees to help them understand the core competencies and values of the company and to share their career stories.
For full-time employees who wish to improve their job performance or better their potential for job advancement within the company, Ahern also provides an education assistance program; employees may be reimbursed for tuition, books, and related fees.
In addition to all of the career development opportunities, Ahern offers eligible employees reimbursement to fund their own personal development. Employees may choose any topic that interests them such as cooking classes, scuba diving, quilting, photography, automotive repair, golf lessons, etc. and may submit these for reimbursement.
