Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems

Fire Sprinklersfor ASRS

Ahern knows that Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (ASRS) demand a comprehensive fire protection strategy due to the high density of stored goods, the presence of electrical equipment, and the challenges of manual firefighting. Partnering with a specialized fire protection contractor ensures that customized early detection and sprinkler systems are designed for each unique situation, ultimately safeguarding your assets and minimizing potential downtime.

Ahern employs over 245 NICET certified professionals; nearly half hold the uppermost Levels 3 or 4 certification.

Ahern was proactive in their coordination and communication when it came to shut-downs and interruptions to the critical systems within the existing facility. When it came to the major shutdowns they had every detail planned out and had the resources to be able to execute this critical work very efficiently. Ahern has been a great partner for M&J over the years and this project was another example of just this.

Industrial Pallet Racking ASRS

Industrial Pallet Racking ASRS

Fire Protection for High Rise Rack storage facilities require significant advanced planning in order to effectively install fire protection systems especially in freezers and coolers. It is important to determine clearances for sprinkler installations in both the horizontal and vertical orientations.  Knowing the various protection options available is key to optimizing storage arrays and minimizing or eliminating sprinkler interferences.

Mini-Load ASRS

Mini-load Automated Storage and Retrieval systems are a style of ASRS that uses trays or small totes to convey materials as opposed to product stored on pallets. They create unique fire protection challenges in that there is a high density of storage and the presence of structure that can potentially divert sprinkler discharge away from burning product. Mini-load structures will typically have rack uprights that are spaced 18” to 24” Horizontally and 12” vertically with totes supported by angle iron.

Shuttle-Style ASRS

Shuttle-Style ASRS

Shuttle Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems are a style of ASRS that uses trays or small totes to convey materials as opposed to product stored on pallets. They differ from Mini-load ASRS in that the product is stored on slatted structures that are void of vertical alignment guides. Shuttle Style ASRS typically have rack uprights that are spaced 8 ft. to 10 ft. horizontally and tier heights that are 1 ft. to 2 ft. vertically.

Top-Loading ASRS

Top Loading ASRS are unique in that product is loaded and unloaded from the top of a metal grid structure with containers that are usually open-top and constructed of unexpanded plastics.  The are stacked and aligned vertically within the structure and are accessed through top of the grid by service roots that are either storing or retrieving product.

99%

Since 2010, over 99% of Ahern's work was completed without follow-up warranty replacement.

We were asked by the customer to expedite project completion on an already aggressive schedule. With Ahern's efforts, we were able to achieve the acceleration needed to meet the end date requested.
