Lasers, Robotics, and… Pipe Hangers?
Construction layout and surveying is all about accuracy. Until recently, these processes were performed manually by multiple people, and took a great deal of time and effort. The emergence of robotics and laser technology, however, has made the layout process faster, less labor-intensive, and more accurate.
Products such as the Trimble® Total Station use lasers to identify the locations of wall and floor pipe or sleeves, pipe hangers, anchor bolts, roof penetrations, and more. This information is then uploaded into a project’s 3D model, and the final layout drawings represent a complete picture of all project installations and locations.
Ahern recently upgraded to the Trimble® RTS 873 Total Station, which offers the latest in robotic and laser layout technology. Where two people in the past would have located points using a traditional rod and prism, a single designer can now locate points using the Total Station. This obviously decreases manpower needed to operate the unit, but also increases the amount of hangers located in a single day.
Units like the Total Station significantly increase accuracy, reliability, and productivity. If you’re interested in learning more about how Ahern can bring this cutting-edge technology to your next project, contact us today.
