FIRE, often just the word will create excitement. Many enjoy watching it start and grow, feeling the heat rise from the flames and seeing how it reacts. The children of the Boys and Girls Club of the Greater Chippewa Valley were no different; they were all simply amazed by fire, and on this particular day, they had quite a show.

In September, Sam Karoblis‍, Service Department Manager and Chris Simpson‍, Service Sales Representative, met with the Boys and Girls Club of the Greater Chippewa Valley to spend some time showing them how fire sprinklers and fire extinguishers work. Now it’s no small feat just to have them all gather together, sit and listen but this team kept them intrigued with questions and entertained for the hour with lighting fires, drenching water and blowing off extinguishers.

It started with some fun facts about sprinklers, where the children were able to see, touch, and pass around various sprinkler heads to understand the differences in them. They then moved to the burn trailer, where with the assistance of Jordan Amos‍, sprinkler apprentice; they started lighting fires and setting off sprinklers for the children to witness the sprinklers in action. It seemed, they couldn't set them off fast enough, however, once the last sprinkler was used, the team turned their attention to Fire Extinguishers. Here Chris Simpson explained how fire extinguishers work and how to properly use them. After the brief overview, he held a demonstration for the children to see firsthand how to PASS - Pull the pin, Aim the nozzle, Squeeze the handle and Sweep side to side.
