Apprenticeship opportunities combine coursework, on-the-job training, and work experience alongside industry experts. All of our pre-apprentices and apprentices are given the tools to build their skills with the opportunity for furthering their career at Ahern. Plus, you’ll get paid while working towards your journeyman card!

Do you want to try out a career path to make sure it’s the right fit? Ahern’s Youth Apprenticeship (YA) Program is for you! This program allows high school juniors and seniors to split their time between school and work. As a YA, you’ll get paid, receive hands-on training, explore different careers, and potentially receive a full-time job offer upon graduation.

As a sprinkler fitter at Ahern, you’ll play a vital role in protecting lives and property by installing and maintaining fire protection sprinkler systems. Your day will include hands-on work like laying out and assembling piping systems, securing pipe supports, and making sure every connection is just right for optimal water flow. If you enjoy building systems that make a real difference, this is your chance to be part of something impactful!

Ahern steamfitters are at the heart of creating and maintaining complex piping systems that keep essential operations running smoothly. Your work will include fabricating, installing, and repairing piping with precision. From rigging and supporting equipment, valves, and fittings to brazing, soldering, and pressure-testing systems, your expertise will shine. You’ll master techniques like MIG, TIG, Flux Core, and Stick welding to ensure leak-free, durable installations. If you’re ready to bring your skills to a team that values craftsmanship and innovation, Ahern is the place for you!

As a Sheet Metal Technician at Ahern, you’ll bring precision and creativity to life by fabricating, assembling, and installing metal products like ducts, control boxes, and furnace casings. Your days will involve cutting, bending, shaping, and joining metal using tools like fabricating machines, hammers, soldering, and welding equipment. You’ll also ensure every seam and joint is inspected and smoothed to meet the highest quality standards. Whether crafting custom pieces or installing prefabricated ducts for heating and air conditioning, your expertise will help create systems that deliver comfort and efficiency.

Ahern plumbers take on a variety of essential tasks that keep systems running. From installing and maintaining plumbing systems to setting up gas fixtures, every day brings something new. You’ll cut, thread, weld, and bend pipes with precision, ensuring assemblies, valves, and fittings are installed to perfection. If you’re ready to use your skills to create reliable systems that people depend on, this is for you!

As part of Ahern’s Mechanical Metal Trades team in our state-of-the-art pipe fabrication shop, you’ll fabricate, install, maintain, and repair essential piping systems. Your work will include cutting, beveling, threading, bending, and welding pipe to exact specifications. You’ll be part of a team that takes pride in crafting top-quality systems that power industries and protect communities.

That depends on what you would like to do in the future. We offer pre-apprenticeships and apprenticeships in a range of roles for recent graduates across our business. There are opportunities in Sheet Metal/HVAC, Pipe Fabrication, Steamfitting, Fire Protection and Plumbing.
What is an Apprenticeship?
A registered apprenticeship offers numerous benefits to both employers and jobseekers. They receive most of their training on-the-job, while working for an employer who pays a good living wage. The employment is the primary requirement for an apprenticeship - a job must exist for the apprentice to be trained. Apprentices also learn a portion of their skills in a classroom. The classroom instruction is usually provided by experienced tradesman.
