Ahern Fire Protection Serving Chicagoland for Over 30 Years

Now new office, new leadership, and expanded offerings drive growth.

Founded in Fond du Lac Wisconsin in 1880, J. F. Ahern is celebrating their 140th anniversary this year.  Back in 1989, Ahern Fire Protection’s first district office was established in Elk Grove Village. The office opened with 23 employees and offered traditional wet/dry sprinkler systems. Over the next 15 years, Ahern Chicago earned a reputation as a solid and credible fire protection contractor in the Chicagoland area and expanded services to include a Special Hazards capability. 

In 2011, Ahern’s Chicago office entered a partnership with Hill Mechanical Group. The resulting venture, known as Hill/Ahern Fire Protection, combined Ahern’s extensive fire protection expertise with Hill’s local mechanical contracting success to provide customers with a trusted single-source provider.

Fast forward to 2017 when Hill Mechanical and Ahern Fire Protection amicably agreed to dissolve the partnership setting the foundation for Ahern to focus on growing the special hazards and fire alarm business in Chicago.

Recently, Ahern Chicago opened a regional office in Schaumburg providing a broad range of fire protection solutions including special hazards, fire equipment, and fire alarm services.  The Company is a licensed NOTIFIER® Distributor in the state of Illinois.

The Chicago team is led by recent hire Mike Bang who was brought on as General Manager to lead all office and field employees. Mike has 20 years of industry experience with his most recent position being as Strategic Sales Manager at Johnson Controls. Overall the team has over 80 years of combined fire protection and life safety experience in the Chicago market.
