HDR Headquarters

On-time &within budget

AFP-Omaha was selected by general contractor Kiewit Building Group to install the fire sprinkler system for HDR's new 254,000 square foot office building located on the corner of 67th and Frances Street in central Omaha's Askarben Village. HDR, formerly known as Henningson Durham & Richardson, opted to move due to outgrowing its current location. Executives also wanted to provide plenty of parking and entertainment amenities for workers and clients. The building consists of 18,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space while the second through tenth floors are occupied by HDR for office space. A penthouse is included, making the facility 11 floors total. A parking garage containing ground-level shops and restaurants is attached to the building.

Omaha's scope involved the design, fabrication, and installation of 12 wet pipe systems and one fire pump. Our team's design capabilities improved the accuracy of the project, while utilization of our fire protection prefabrication shop increased productivity - 2,700 sprinkler heads were prefabricated totaling 32,500 linear feet of piping.

Even though high rise buildings can be difficult due to the amount of work across all floors, Ahern's project team wasn't fazed. A clear schedule was written in the bid documents that allowed the team to prepare a plan to match resources with the amount of work. They utilized a field team that was familiar with the general contractor's expectations which proved to be successful.
