UW-Madison Dayton Street Steam Tunnel
On-time &safe completion
Pipe Fabrication Services for Public Utilities in the Madison Area
Ahern performed a complex underground steam and condensate piping system installation, part of the school’s ongoing utility improvements. Crews worked inside a 10-foot concrete pipe casing bored under the street approximately 25 feet below grade. Past experience working with UW-Madison on box conduit and steam tunnel projects made the learning curve easier this time around.
Ahern prefabricated nearly 40,000 pounds of process pipe in their state-of-the-art Fond du Lac shop and shipped the spools in two separate loads, enabling the job to progress on time and with less on-site labor. With multiple certified welders completing the installation, Ahern was able to wrap up the job in time for UW-Madison’s first football game of the season.
